HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO FULLY GROOM MY DOG?
Time for a full groom is dependent on several factors including breed, age, temperament and coat type and condition. I will be able to advise you when you bring your dog in when to expect a call from me to let you know they are ready to collect
Appointments
IS THIS A WALK-IN SERVICE?
Due to demand, all grooming appointments must be booked in advance. I recommend making your dog’s appointment a few weeks in advance to ensure you get the date and time you need
Nails
CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY DOGS NAILS CLIPPED?
Yes of course, please call for our availability for a nail clip, prices start from £20.
Please note for our regular customers this is a complimentary service. if your dog doesn’t allow me to trim the nails due to being aggressive/ biting, then unfortunately i will be unable to complete this part of the groom.
Matting
MY DOGS COAT IS MATTED. WILL YOU SHAVE OFF THE COAT?
I try to avoid clipping a dog’s coat off unless completely necessary. Occasionally, when possible I will endeavour to de-matt the coat providing the process is deemed suitable and will not cause stress or discomfort to your dog for long periods of time.
Your pet’s welfare is my number one priority at all times. I will be able to assess the coat and determine how best to proceed on initial consultation
DOES HAND STRIPPING HURT?
Many people believe that the hand stripping process is painful. Since the coat that is being removed is already dead there is no pain associated with the process at all.
When done incorrectly, mainly if the wrong hairs are being pulled, this can be uncomfortable for the dog.
A knowledgeable groomer will know how to properly introduce your dog to hand stripping. After they become accustomed to the routine most dogs will take a nap on the table.
Matting – Why – here’s how
What happens when a pet isn’t bathed every month:
dead skin cells layer on the newer cells, causing the skins natural oils (sebum) become blocked.
The hair requires that natural hydration.
So, when the dead cells start building and blocking, the hair become more and more dried out. Each hair follicle has plaques. These will sprout open (like a Xmas tree) instead of being smooth and closed down by healthy oils and hydration.
So when the dried out open hair happens, they then act like Velcro to each follicle; creating matting that just keeps tightening.
Trust the proper bathing technique I described above. Trust the process! If you understand how the skin cycle works, then you’ll have better coats.
No pet should go more than 8 weeks between baths. 4-6 weeks is more ideal.
It’s science!
Puppy Grooming
For young puppies who have been fully vaccinated I offer a complementary puppy intro 10 minute session in my salon.
This involves me introducing your puppy to the sights, sounds and smells in the grooming environment and to get your pup’s tail wagging. It’s important to plant the right seed in your dog’s mind and to create a positive introduction. Experience has shown me how important this session can be in ensuring your dog’s long term confidence when visiting the groomers.
THE SMALL PRINT
All add-on’s are at an additional cost on top of the standard grooming cost.
